Material racking products help your business storage problems
Racking Surveys are required by anyone operating pallet and shelving systems, but are often seen as an unwelcome expense
On the other hand, every one is interested in identifying improvements and efficiencies in their space utilisation and warehousing methods
The Inspection service includes a Warehouse Healthcheck, which identifies key areas capable of improvement, at the same time as we undertake your annual rack inspection
Logistics Solutions, with over 20 years experience in Warehouse Logistics, offers a fast, reliable service allowing you to “Fine Tune” all aspects of your warehousing operation
Do we really need an Independent Racking Inspection?
Racking Surveys are required under Health and Safety legislation1 on a regular basis
Pallet racking is now classified as “Work Equipment” and as such requires regular
documented inspections by a "Technically Competent Person"
Regular surveys can help reduce both insurance premiums and maintenance costs
You may have no choice if required by an insurer, Health and Safety Officer, following a
warehouse accident, or even a rack collapse
Investigation into the causes of damage results in improved operating methods,
damage reduction, and reduced maintenance costs
Logistics Solutions can assist in the development of internal inspection and recording
systems
The Inspection includes a Warehouse Healthcheck, which allows you to identify and
prioritise key areas for improvement within the warehouse, and initiate long term
cost savings
Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998
How often should we have a Racking Inspection?

Problems and Causes of Rack Damage
Rack damage is usually due to a lack of understanding about the relationship between
racking systems, pallets (type and construction), and materials handling equipment,
whilst often appearing at first glance to be simple carelessness.
This can be remedied by a tailored “Staff Development Programme” of re-education for
all warehouse staff with the typical format:
oAn explanation of the basic principles of safe handling and storage of product in
racking which would typically include:
1.Materials handling equipment
2.Racking
3.Unit loads
4.Pallet type
5.Operation
6.SEMA 2 guidelines
oAn explanation of the critical interrelationship of all points covered above
oA review of the racking inspection findings
oDiscussion of the damage and other issues noted in the inspection and feedback
oRecommendations for remedial action and general discussion
Our experience is that the total cost of this programme will be recouped by damage
reduction alone within a very short period of time as a direct result of improved operator
awareness and working methods.
You will also demonstrate to your workforce that you are fully committed to maintaining a
safe working environment.
